FAQ

Questions & answers

Is my Notion data safe?
We never store your Notion data. Exports are generated on the fly from Notion's API. We only access databases you explicitly share during the OAuth flow.
What's the Place property?
Place is Notion's native location property type. Add it to any database to store addresses and coordinates. NotionToMaps reads this property to generate your maps. If Notion ever limits access to it, NotionToMaps falls back to geocoding any text address property automatically — your maps keep working.
Will my map update when I edit Notion?
Yes. Each map has a permanent URL per format (KML, GPX, GeoJSON, CSV). When a tool like Google Earth or Garmin BaseCamp fetches that URL, it gets the latest data from your Notion database. No re-downloads needed — just paste the URL once.
Are the export URLs live or static files?
Live. Every export is a permanent endpoint, not a one-time file. Bookmark the URL in your GIS tool, paste it into a website's iframe, or feed it to a script. The data refreshes from Notion within minutes of every edit.
Can I install a map as an app on my phone?
Yes. Open any map on your phone, tap your browser's share menu, and choose Add to Home Screen (iOS Safari) or Install App (Android Chrome). The map gets its own icon and opens full-screen like a native app — perfect for travel guides, restaurant lists, or city tours you want one tap away. Online connection required.
Does it work with private databases?
Private database support is available on the Premium plan. Free tier works with any database you share through the Notion OAuth connection.
Can I embed the map on my website?
Yes. Every map has an embed code you can copy-paste into any website. Free embeds include a small NotionToMaps badge. Premium removes it.
What mapping apps can I use the exports with?
KML works with Google Earth and Google My Maps. GPX works with Garmin devices, AllTrails, Gaia GPS, Komoot, and most hiking apps. GeoJSON works with Leaflet, Mapbox, QGIS, and web mapping tools. CSV works with Excel, Google Sheets, and any data tool.
