KML Export

Export Notion to KML

Transform your Notion places into KML files for Google Earth, Google Maps, and GIS applications

Free • No credit card required • Updated

KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is an XML-based geographic data format originally developed by Keyhole, Inc. in 2001 and later acquired by Google in 2004. The Open Geospatial Consortium adopted KML 2.2 as an official international standard on April 14, 2008, cementing it as the lingua franca of Google Earth, Google Maps, ArcGIS, QGIS, and dozens of other geobrowsers worldwide.

NotionToMaps gives every Notion database a live KML URL — one stable endpoint per map. Paste it into Google Earth's Network Link, Google My Maps, or any KML-aware tool and the data refreshes from Notion on every fetch. No conversion gymnastics, no manual coordinate copying, no re-uploading files after every edit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Notion properties are included in the KML export?

The KML export includes the place name, coordinates (latitude/longitude), address, and any text properties from your Notion database. Each place becomes a Placemark with a description containing your Notion data.

Can I customize the marker icons in the KML file?

Currently KML exports use default Google Earth markers. You can edit the KML file manually or use Google Earth Pro to customize marker styles after import.

Is there a limit to how many places I can export?

No limit on the number of places. NotionToMaps exports your entire database regardless of size. Large databases may take a few seconds longer to process.

How do I import KML into Google Earth?

In Google Earth Pro: File → Open → select your .kml file. In Google Earth Web: click the Projects icon → New Project → Import KML file. Your places will appear immediately.

Does the KML file update automatically?

Yes. The KML endpoint at /api/map/{id}/kml is a live URL — every time Google Earth, ArcGIS, or any KML reader fetches it, you get the current Notion data. Paste the URL once and the tool stays in sync. Save the file locally only if you need an offline copy.

Can I export to KMZ instead of KML?

Currently we export to KML format. KMZ is simply a compressed KML file - you can create one by zipping the .kml file and renaming the extension to .kmz.

What coordinate system does the KML use?

KML uses WGS84 (EPSG:4326) coordinate system with decimal degrees, which is the standard for GPS and web mapping applications.
